Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday (1993) is the ninth film of the Friday the 13th franchise and is not like the standard slasher template in that it involves supernatural body-swapping as part of the plot. Jason Voorhees himself does not fire guns, but the human characters in the film make use of multiple weapons, including several types of guns, in their unsuccessful attempts to kill the invincible killer.

In this blog post, we’ll break down the firearms featured in the movie, highlighting their real-world counterparts and their roles in the film.

Handguns in Jason Goes To Hell

1. Colt Detective Special (.38 Special)
One of the most iconic revolvers in cinema, the Colt Detective Special, appears in the hands of law enforcement officers. This snub-nosed revolver was popular among police detectives due to its compact size and reliability.

  • Caliber:.38 Special
  • Capacity: 6 rounds
  • Prominent Use: Carried by some of the officers in the first string of events in which Jason is attacked and seemingly killed.

2. Smith & Wesson Model 36 “Chief’s Special” (.38 Special)
The S&W Model 36, a classic snub-nose revolver enjoyed by both police and civilians due to its concealment, is another short-barrelled revolver that can be seen in the movie.

  • Caliber:.38 Special
  • Capacity: 5 rounds
  • Notable Use: Most likely carried by secondary law enforcement characters.

3. Beretta 92FS (9mm Parabellum)
Beretta 92FS is likely one of the most recognized semi-automatic pistols globally, formerly used by the United States as the M9. SWAT agents wear them in Jason Goes To Hell.

  • Caliber: 9mm
  • Capacity: 15+1 rounds
  • Unique Use: Used for the first scene where Jason is attacked by an ambushing police squad.

Rifles & Shotguns in Jason Goes To Hell

4. Remington 870 (12 Gauge)
Remington 870 is one of the most used pump-action shotguns manufactured, renowned for its toughness and adaptability. In the film, it’s carried by lawmen and hunters.

  • Gauge: 12
  • Capacity: 4+1 (typically)
  • Notable Use: Carried by SWAT men during the opening ambush.

5. M16A1 (5.56×45mm NATO)
The M16A1, the military variant of the AR-15, is used by the heavily armed police team that eliminates Jason in the film’s explosive beginning.

  • Caliber: 5.56×45mm NATO
  • Capacity: 20- or 30-round magazines
  • Notable Use: Used by SWAT agents suppressing fire on Jason in the opening scene.

6. Heckler & Koch MP5 (9mm Parabellum)
The MP5 is a legendary submachine gun favored by the military and police of the world. Its compact size and ability to maneuver through narrow areas make it ideal for hand-to-hand combat.

  • Caliber: 9mm
  • Capacity: 15, 30-round magazines
  • Notable Use: Presumably used by the SWAT team at the film’s opening.

Though not as gun-clad as most action or horror films, even Jason Goes To Hell has their share of pivotal guns in the opening sequence where police finally figure out how to kill Jason Voorhees—but only temporarily. The use of revolvers, pistols, shotguns, and rifles gives a realistic touch to the film from a police and military weapons aspect.
